"Blue 6" was the founder's FBI SWAT element number. While assigned to the FBI SWAT Team, he was known as SWAT Operator "Blue 6." In addition, the color blue and the number six (6) has many significant meanings which emphasize Blue 6 values.
The color blue is often associated with security matters, similar to how the color red is often associated with emergencies such as fire and ambulance operations. For instance, the phrase "Back the Blue" refers to supporting law enforcement. The color blue is also often associated with the concept of peace.
Regarding the number six (6), law enforcement and military personnel often communicate that they have one another's back covered for threats by stating, "I have your 6." The phrase refers to a way to designate directions based on a clock face. The statement on the radio, "Unit 404, you have two approaching your twelve (o'clock)," would mean that two people were moving directly toward the front of Unit 404's direction of movement. The statement, "Team 2, be advised, we are coming up on your 6," would mean that members of your team were approaching from your rear to catch up. At Blue 6, our goal is to enhance safety. So, symbolically, we have your back, or your 6. Six is also commonly referred to as the number of men. So, it is about people. And the number 6 is commonly used in the military to refer to Command and Control operations.
So, the name Blue 6 shows our values.
Our motto "Attitude is the difference between ordeal and adventure," is intended to provide a fresh and inspiring perspective on what are often trying and difficult situations for people, the things for which they hire us. To give credit, that idea was inspired by a saying from a man named Bob Bitchin, a sailor and adventurer who founded Cruising Outpost magazine and Lattitudes and Attitudes magazine.
Blue 6 Investigations consists of a network of investigative specialists consisting of retired Special Agents (SA) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and from other federal, state, and local agencies with centuries of combined experience. Blue 6 has people who have been intimately involved in some of the most historic events in human history.
Blue 6 personnel have engaged in counter-terrorism, counter-espionage, criminal investigations, and special operations (covert). They have worked in partnership environments, which included local, state, national, and international organizations. Through global intelligence operations, they have participated in historic investigations – the Oklahoma City bombing, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Operation Sour Gas in Texas, many overseas incidents, countered covert terrorist infiltration, countered foreign espionage operations, provided war support, conducted top fugitive manhunts for such as Whitey Bulger and Eric Robert Rudolph, dismantled organized crime rings, and participated in investigations of major fraud such as the historic national savings and loan scandals.
